We like to think we cater to a specific market in Chicago wedding photography – our couples happen to be some of the most stylish, creative, and unique people and we love seeing their personalities shine through their plans and details. We especially love winter weddings – not only does the off-season allow us to focus more on the couple, we also get some stunning images featuring crystal clear skies and snow-covered landscapes. The early twilight and frosty air is invigorating, and there isn’t a blusher product in the world that can match the natural beauty of cheeks flushed pink from the cold.
Matt and Patrisha chose to hold their wedding ceremony and reception at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton, IL. We met up with Patrisha on a beautiful and brisk December morning as Maria Blanco put the finishing touches on Patrisha’s elegant chignon. Patrisha slipped into her gorgeous one-shoulder gown, slid on her shoes, and wrapped up in her stunning fur stole – a beautiful bride.
On the other side of the resort Matt was putting the final touches on his wedding attire. After a little assistance with his bow tie he was nearly ready. Matt’s topcoat finished off the look with the perfect touch of class.
The Morton Arboretum – a very popular and pretty park in the summertime – turns into an enchanted wonderland in the wintertime. Frost patterns formed an intricate mosaic on the ice along the edges of the stream and the deep evergreens were a natural, organic showcase for Patrisha’s dress and the white snow. As Matt waited patiently on the bridge, Patrisha quietly sneaked up behind him. Although her boots muffled her footsteps, Matt could feel her excitement and turned for his First Look at his beautiful bride.
We returned to the Arrowhead Golf Course where we met up with the rest of the bridal party. The flowers had arrived and Kathy from Schaefer Greenhouses did an amazing job with the girls’ bouquets. Nestled between the creamy roses were photo charms of loved ones who were special to Patrisha and Matt.
The ceremony began and two little cherubs led the way down the aisle followed by Patrisha and her father. As the sun sank below the horizon and surrounded by family and friends, the couple exchanged vows and their first kiss as husband and wife.
The reception décor included chic white rose centerpieces that popped against the navy tablecloths. The four-tier cake from Oak Mill Bakery – seriously one of our favorites – was the crown jewel, with border detailing that sparkled like ice. After toasts and their first dance, Matt and Patrisha kicked off the party by passing out glow sticks and Joel from Conquest Entertainment invited everyone out on to the floor.
The party was so crazy they even needed a velvet rope and security! 😉
