They both had knots in their stomachs that day, but for very different reasons. Christine was having a tough time locating a Neiman Marcus dress at work, but Joel had bigger things on his mind. He had a ring in his pocket and he was going to propose to Christine that evening. Joel had made all the arrangements. He had the ring, the flower petals, the surprise engagement party, the gigantic umbrella. He even hired us to photograph these events.
We met up with Joel at the Tiffany Foundation Garden in Grant Park on Saturday, May 28th. It was misty outside, which was perfect – with the exception of a small group of tourists, the park was empty. Joel had picked this location knowing that Buckingham Fountain and the city of Chicago would provide the perfect backdrop for his engagement to Christine. The Tiffany Foundation Garden had special significance for them in particular – Joel works for Tiffany & Co. and was planning to slide one of the famous Tiffany solitaire engagement rings on Christine’s finger. His co-worker Melanie Pearl (email@example.com) assisted in picking out the gorgeous ring Christine is wearing this very moment.
He quickly spread the rose petals in a path from the street to the center of the garden, where he stood anxiously waiting for Christine to arrive. The cab pulled up and Christine hopped out, saw the path of petals, and followed them to find Joel waiting for her in the middle of the garden.
In that moment, Christine realized what was happening and tears of joy started to fall. They shared a few private words under the umbrella and then Joel dropped to one knee and asked Christine to be his wife.
We captured a few more fun images of them in the Tiffany Foundation Garden and throughout Millennium Park.
After the engagement she also received one more surprise – her friends and family were waiting for her to arrive for a engagement party at the Signature Room at the 95th in the John Hancock Observatory.
Joel planned a wonderful surprise proposal for Christine and really set the bar high for Chicago’s soon-to-be affianced. Congratulations and Best Wishes to you both!
