We’re getting hungry just thinking about the tasty cakes and confections from Oak Mill Bakery, our next Vendor Spotlight! We had the pleasure of tasting their creations when photographing three of our recent Chicago weddings – Sami & David, Jestene & Mike, and Caitlin & Jon. After the first bite, Joshua declared a new company policy to include in our contracts a slice of cake and a Shirley Temple at every wedding reception. We get excited when we see Oak Mill Bakery listed on our brides’ vendor spreadsheets, and we’re even more excited to share a little bit more about them with you!

We create custom cakes & sweet tables for weddings, bridal showers, and any other special occasion.
How long have you been in business?
26 years
What inspired you to start your business?
Along with my culinary background – I have a love for food, really good food.
What is your favorite thing about your business?
The quality. We take pride in the ingredients of our product, which is reflected in the taste. And hearing from our customers that our cake helped make their special event even more memorable – it is a great feeling to know that we contribute to so many special moments in our customers’ lives.
Was there a defining moment when you knew you picked the right career path?
We first opened the bakery as a wholesale bakery supplying restaurants and hotels. When the demand for our baked goods pushed us to open our first retail location, I knew we were doing something right.
When you built your business what style would you say you built it around?
Is chaos an option? In regards to our products, the recipes have a classic European foundation, with a modern twist (especially the design and décor).
When working with people how do you help bring the vision for the event to life?
Listening. It is very important to know exactly what the customer wants, but I am not afraid to say when something simply doesn’t work (many years of experience allow me to do that).
Where do you go for inspiration?
Magazines (they cover every inch of my office floor). I also have to credit my frequent trips to Europe, there’s simply no better place to see the most cutting edge innovations in dessert.
Is there anything else you want people to know about you and your business?
Our Pear Charlotte cake is life-changing and we do not make doughnuts.
